Bump into RSMM's stentorian voiced Singer, Ivy Banerjee, from Kolkata, India. She is a well-known and honed Indian Sub-Continental/Hindustani Classical Singer.
The list of her gurus and teachers have been mentioned in her short description on the homepage, but in addition to them, she has learnt from her mother Tapati Banerjee. Ivy has been taught in detail the Rabindra Sangeet, a Bengali Vocal genre in the Indian Sub-Continental/Hindustani Classical Music.
Ivy thrives in singing Khayal and Thumri, especially Tappa. She is adept in singing almost all the genres of Indian Sub-Continental/Hindustani Classical Music, such as Dadra, Ghazal, Bhajan, Qawwali etc. Her personal favourite is the Ghazal Vocal genre, in which she has recently set her foot in.
Obtaining a BA(Hons) in Philosophy, she has done her MA(Hons) in Khayal and Thumri Vocal genres of the Indian Sub-Continental/Hindustani Classical Music. Presently, Ivy is completing her PhD on the link between Thumri Vocal genre and courtesanry, which is a highly specialised subject for her thesis.
She has won first position at All India Radio Competition on 2001, in Indian Sub-Continental/Hindustani Classical Music. In addition, she prides in receiving a gold medal from the Government of India in 2003 for singing in the Khayal Vocal genre. Furthermore, her voice has been used by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, for his fashion brand and couture collections in 2018.
Ivy is a teacher of the Indian Sub-Continental/Hindustani Classical Music also, she has numerous students, to whom she imparts her knowledge and art. She is deeply passionate about teaching voice modulation to the next generation of Singers to come.
