A classically musical album of Marwari Bandish-ka-Bhajans.
The tradition of Bhajan singing, is an ancient one in the Indian Sub-Continent. In the Bhajan Pantheon, Saint Meera Bai holds a lofty stature and an honourable name, amongst others.
Saint Meera Bai was born into a royal family of Rajasthan. From childhood, she was captivated by Hindustani Classical Music and dance. She was interested in both: Dhrupad-accented and Khayal-accented styles of Hindustani Classical Music.
In every era, her penned Bhajans have been sung in many different accentuations and styles, nor have they been heard in her self-selected Ragas for each Bhajan. This seems to be the case because most Ragas she has prescribed are rarely heard nowadays.
In this classically musical album of Bandish-ka-Bhajans, we have paid special attention to the sanctity of her poetry, inorder to keep her spirituality and mysticity authentic.
The Bhajans have been sung in the Bandishi/Khayal-accented singing style and composed in her self-prescribed Ragas, keeping it as authentic as it could be to her own singing style.
We envisage that you will be able to connect with Saint Meera Bai's feelings in these Bandish-ka-Bhajans, through the voice of Tulika Ghosh.
